Definitions.

Friend (n): one attached to another by affection or esteem; a favored companion
Fake (n): one that is not what it purports to be; a worthless imitation passed off as genuine

Hmm. Why did I look up the definitions to these words? Because a person can't be both. You're either one or the other. People will always believe that there is someone who is trying to "take their best friend away from them" or "get in the way of their friendship." Somehow or another, I always seem to be the person that people think will get in the way. Things start out great then end up in a pile of crap. A group of friends can start out strong, but eventually they taper off.

Did you know that I've only literally talked to two people from day to day since middle school? Yep, it's true. Others have become threatened by my presence, or they claim to see me as the type of person who is too loud and overbearing. I'll admit that I am too loud and overbearing though; my personality is one that you'll either love or hate.. and I'm okay with that, honestly. It's in my family. It's how we are. My personality makes true friends hard to come by. Distance doesn't really help either. My two soul mates live in Arizona and North Carolina - and that doesn't really make things any easier.

On a lighter note, Golden Girls is probably my favorite show ever. Nope. Correction. It IS my favorite show ever. It seems to make all of my problems go away. Oh, and Miranda Lambert's new CD Revolution! is ABSOLUTELY amazing. I downloaded it a couple of days ago, and I haven't been able to stop listening to it since.

distance.

Ah, distance, we meet again. You love to take a hold of my heart and squeeze it. You seem to enjoy throwing curve balls at me like you're the star pitcher of the Red Sox. I'm getting tired of you; and I would like for you to give me a small break. It's almost been a month since I've seen my man, and it's been a while since I've even gotten a real Skype date. You just keep giving me obstacles to jump over, and I'm getting really annoyed with it. Normally, I don't complain about this kind of thing.. because I know that I don't HAVE to deal with it. I don't HAVE to have a man that's in the military. But I do. And I love him. And nothing will ever change that feeling.

Distance is not for the weak. Distance is not for the fearful. Distance is only for the bold, strong, and ready to take risks. Being a military wife doesn't allow for much room to complain, because well, who's going to understand what you're going through anyway? Eventually you learn to live with the separation. Nobody said it was going to be easy. So, if you're expecting easy and you've had everything handed to you in life, this is not for you. If you're willing to actually work to have the best relationship that you can possibly have, then distance must be your middle name.

These people who CHOOSE to be in long distance relationships, or even those who choose to get married to those who believe they are "the perfect love," and then they are so miserable are just crazy. Facebook is not the place to complain about your marital /relationship problems. Nor is Myspace. Nor is Twitter. Nor is the internet in general. The truth is: people that use Facebook, etc. just to complain and make their significant other look REALLY bad to all of his or her friends only do it because they want everyone to be on their side. If anyone says different or puts the reality into their situation, then the person gets super angry for no reason.. when surely they saw it coming, because they had it coming to them. People who get married or are in a relationship are supposed to attempt to work things out amongst themselves. The whole world should not be the ones to solve your problems for you. Counselors are there to help. Lawyers are there to help. You may have to pay, but it's a lot better than dealing with your problems on the internet just so you can make your significant other look bad.. then to turn around and be the "happiest couple in the world" again.

Like I said before, distance is not for the weak. I have been around a long distance relationship for a while, and I knew I was ready for it. My family is very strong. We're such a great support group for each other. And I knew that they would be there if I ever felt upset or sad or empty. They have definitely proven me right. I'm so lucky because I HAVE such a great support group. I moved away. Not only am I in a long distance relationship with my man, but I'm in one with my family. It's hard to attend a college six hours away from everyone you love.. and 12 hours from the man who holds your heart.

So the point of this, besides the fact that distance has gotten to me a little, is that people need to appreciate what they have. You chose to be in this. You chose to have a boyfriend. You chose to get married. You chose to live together. And you chose to live with who he /she is. If you aren't happy, GET OUT.
